Taffin Khan wins all his matches

National Senior Chess Champion Taffin Khan won all of his matches in the Geddes Grant/Seven Seas 2011 National Senior Chess Championship which began last weekend at the Ocean Spray Hotel.

According to a press release, following Khan closely is junior player Anthony Drayton while Glenford Corlette scored an upset victory over Maria Thomas, the lone female participant.

Thomas to date has suffered two losses but  she has been racking up admirable performances since making her debut on the chess scene earlier this year.
Eight chess players along with four juniors are vying for the 2011 senior title in a double round robin challenge, including the defending senior champion.

Junior Champion Suhai Feng who is also a participant, was a no-show for the first three rounds, resulting in three straight losses for him. He was able to secure a draw with fellow junior Saeed Ali in the fourth round.

Taffin Khan concentrates deeply on his next move against Maria Thomas.

The points standings of the eight participants after four rounds are: Taffin Khan four points, Anthony Drayton three and a half, Maria Thomas and Saeed Ali two points apiece, Rashad Hussain and Frankie Farley one and a half each, Glenford Corlette one point and Suhai Feng half a point.
A point is given for a win, half a point for a draw and zero point for a loss.

Meanwhile the championship will continue on November 26 at the same venue with ten rounds still to be played after four matches.
