PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Anisa Mohammed said she was planning to use the forthcoming home series against India Women to move up the World rankings.
The West Indies Women’s off-spinner said she hoped to displace England’s Laura Marsh as the fourth-ranked One-day International bowler in the World.
“I am five points behind Laura, so hopefully I can make it up to number four,” said Mohammed in an interview with the local daily Trinidad & Tobago Newsday.
West Indies Women face India Women in five Twenty20 and three One-day Internationals between February 18 and March 4.
The team has assembled in Antigua for a 12-day training camp ahead of the series and Mohammed said this would be crucial in getting them in the right frame of mind.
“The more we train as a team the better it will be for us,” said Mohammed. “Knowing that we come from different islands, the more we train together will help us.”
“I think we have a good chance. Last year, we lost 2-3 to them in India, but this time, we have home advantage.”
Mohammed added: “We did really well in Bangladesh (in the Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament) with everyone performing well and it’s the same team again so we should do well.
“Usually our bowling and fielding are our main strengths, but once the batting clicks, it will be good.”
She said the team was looking forward to playing on home soil again, particularly in St. Kitts, where “they have always given [the girls] great support”.
