Taffin Khan assumes sole lead after five rounds of Trophy Stall tournament

National senior champion Taffin Khan will today try to maintain his unbeaten streak when the annual Trophy Stall-sponsored  chess tournament continues at the Kei Shar’s Sports Club.

At the end of yesterday’s fourth and fifth rounds, Khan was the only unbeaten player with the maximum five points after five rounds.

National chess champion Taffin Khan and Maria Thomas are deep in concentration during their match yesterday at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club building, Hadfield Street.

He is followed by Maria Thomas on 3.5 points and Chino Chung on three points.

In the junior category Roberto Neto of Diamond Secondary and Saeed Ali of Richard Ishmael are leading the points’ standings with 3.5 points.

They are followed by Cecil Cox and Sheriffa Ali on three points while national junior champion Suhai Feng is on 2.5 points.

The match between Saeed Ali and Thomas ended in a draw which, according to Shiv Nandalall, President of the Guyana Chess Federation, proves that the juniors are a force to be reckoned with.
