Driver beat man with metal pipe over reversing warning

A man accused of beating another with a metal pipe was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $100,000 when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Adrian Charles denied the allegation which stated that on June 10 at Georgetown he unlawfully inflicted grievous bodily harm on Kevin Headley.

The prosecution stated that on the day in question, the complainant was standing in a line at GT&T to purchase a cell phone when the defendant was reversing his vehicle. According to the facts, the virtual complainant (VC) told the accused to be careful while reversing.
As a result, Prosecutor Philip Sheriff related to the court that a heated argument ensued between the two men at which point the defendant exited his vehicle and retrieved a metal pipe from its tray, with which he dealt the complainant several lashes to his left arm, causing him to receive injuries.

The matter was reported to the police and the accused was later arrested and charged.

The matter will be called again on July 6.
