Sprinter among 4 charged with ganja possession

New Amsterdam and national sprinter Cortez Fraser was among four men who appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court yesterday charged with ganja possession; they were each released on $75,000 bail.

The court was told that Fraser, 17, of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam and Imran Ramsaywack, 18, of Adelphi Village, both of Berbice; along with Mark Major, 28, of Anira Street Queenstown and Wallyee Anderson, 39, of Lot 117 East La Penitence both of Georgetown were found with 18 grammes of Cannabis sativa at the Church View International Hotel.

The four denied the charge and the national athlete told the court that he was not at the hotel but on the road when the police raided the room.

Nevertheless, they were all placed on bail and ordered as a condition to report to the police stations in their home jurisdictions once a week until the case is called again on September 17.
