T&T, Barbados remain unbeaten with convincing netball wins

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad,  CMC – Hosts Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados remained unbeaten in the Americas Federation of Netball Associations Championships when they pulled off big wins on the fifth night of competition here Wednesday.

Barbados’ Nikita Piggott … shot 44 from 53 attempts.

While T&T cruised to an uncomplicated 63-28 victory over St Lucia, Barbados pounded a hapless Grenada 90-19, as both teams continued their relentless march through the competition.

Playing at the Jean Pierre Complex in the feature game, T&T posted a 16-7 lead after the first quarter before jumping to a 30-16 half-time advantage.

They then made the game safe in the third quarter when they outscored the St Lucians 20-0.

Goal shoot Anastascia Wilson scored 34 goals from 39 attempts while goal attack Jellene Richardson was superb with 29 from 32.

For the losers, Shem Maxwell got 12 from 16 attempts and Indira Laurencin, ten form 11 attempts.

Barbados, meanwhile, were never threatened by Grenada after springing an early 22-8 first quarter lead and virtually ending the game as a contest with a 43-15 half-time lead.

The winners got their impetus from Laurel Browne who shot 41 goals from 43 attempts while Nikita Piggott sank 44 from 53 attempts.

For Grenada, Cecile Roberts shot ten goals from 13 attempts.

Barbados could see their winning streak ended on Thursday as they are scheduled to face the dominant unbeaten Jamaicans who sat out Wednesday’s action.

Guyana and Bermuda remained winless in the competition when they suffered defeats at the hands of the United States and Canada respectively.

Guyana trailed 14-36 at half-time to lose 25-82 while Bermuda slipped to a 31-49 loss, after being down 21-43 at the half-way stage.
