Linden unrest causes NCBL to postpone semis

The current Linden unrest has impacted the sporting arena as it has caused the organizers of the National Community Basketball League (NCBL) to postpone the tournament for yet another week.

Playing only one game since the All Star weekend, the semifinal round of the NCBL was unable to tip off due to the management of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) locking its doors on the tournament for undisclosed reasons.

However, with the issues resolved between the organizers and the CASH management, the anticipated semifinal rounds had to be put off due to the Linden protests and fatal shootings.

Kwame Mentor, one of the organisers told Stabroek Sport that the situation has prevented the Linden team members from being able to train or even leave the mining town due to the road blocks and protests.

“It’s an unfortunate situation that is going on in Linden, some of the team members cannot even get to move from one location to the next and they haven’t gotten to train. There is nothing we can do and will just have to wait until the issue is resolved to continue the tournament,” Mentor stated via telephone.

The teams currently left in the tournament and awaiting the semifinal rounds are McDoom/Diamond, Western Union Central Mackenzie, Western Union Plaisance/Vyrheids Lust and Wismar.
