NA man gets six months jail for snatching chain from lad

Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on Monday sentenced a Stanleytown man to six months imprisonment, after he was found guilty of snatching a gold chain from a lad.

Arlington Lane, 33, of 42 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was found guilty at the New Amsterdam Court, which heard evidence from the virtual complainants Kevin and Luke Punwasi.

Kevin Punwasi told the court that on June 2, between 10am and 10:30am, on Main Street and Coppers Lane, New Amsterdam, Lane rode up to him and snatched his gold chain from his neck and escaped. The chain was valued at $25,000.

Luke Punwasi told the court that after the incident, he followed the defendant and caught up with him on Republic Road. He said he ordered the accused to hand over the item to bring an end to the matter. Lane complied but police ranks on patrol arrested the man, after learning of the matter.

Police took the chain from Luke Punwasi and kept it in police custody.

The magistrate ordered that the chain be returned to Kevin Punwasi.
