There has been poor leadership on the part of Linden’s representatives

Dear Editor,

I am watching the ‘collateral damage’ in Region 9 and other areas as a result of the Linden impasse; the real impact will be seen in the area many months after the strike would have ended.

The present situation in Linden, is a result of poor leadership by the town’s representatives. The ongoing talks between the (failed) Linden representatives and government, should have been done, before the situation got out of hand, as it is now. The alleged belief that the government needs to be forced before it will listen to reason, was insidiously used by some sections of the populace to fuel the protest. That belief was the catalyst for all that happened afterwards. If one were to review all that happened on that tragic day, one would see that the people of Linden were betrayed by their leaders. I am in no way absolving the police force for their use of deadly force; it should not have happened.

A solution must be found to effectively solve Linden‘s problems. It must be done in a manner that is acceptable to all Guyanese. Lindeners must also come to the realization that the days of cheap electricity are over.

What now of those politicians who have been championing the cause of Lindeners; go home and ask yourselves, could I not have done things differently?

Yours faithfully,
CS Vaughn
