Linden Grade Six stars rewarded

Linden’s two top performers at this year’s National Grade Six Examinations, Modesty Hossanah and  Ashmar Angel were the proud recipients of cash rewards yesterday from an overseas-based organization, the Edward  Richmond Foundation.

The two, who were awarded places at the nation’s leading secondary school, attended the Regma Primary School and came out on top of Region 10 this year.

Local representative of the organization James Craig made the presentation of US$200 each to the students in the presence of their parents and media representatives yesterday. Craig said that though the organization is one which focuses primarily on sport, its mandate also encompasses development of the Linden community through youths.

The foundation was formed following the death of Guyana’s renowned Edward `Screw’ Richmond who hailed from Linden. He represented Linden and Guyana in several disciplines including football.

The Foundation over the past four years has been sponsoring an annual inter-secondary football competition in addition to making noteworthy donations to schools and individuals.
