Raiders, Bulls seek to remain unbeaten tonight

Retrieve Raiders and Half Mile Bulls, winners of last week’s opening round, will clash this evening while Victory Valley Royals and Block 22 Flames will face off in the other match when the inaugural BOSAI  Minerals group (Guyana) Incorporated Open Challenge basketball competition continues with round robin play at the Mackenzie sports Club Hard Court.

In tonight’s first game at 7pm, Royals, seeded number three, will take on the seventh ranked Block 22 Flames.

Royals will be looking to improve on their last showing when they were beaten by the Retrieve Raiders 76-28.

Junior national forward Chris Williams will be returning to lead the charge with support from Anthony Morris and the talented youth national Marlon Pollydore.

Their opponents Block 22 Flames, have recruited some players for this encounter after realizing that they need to step it up if they are to come out victorious. They will again have to rely on Stephen Arthur, Aubrey Johnson and  Patrick Clarke.

Tonight’s second game should be of keener interest since both sides will  want to keep their unbeaten record intact.

The Raiders will bank on their impressive lineup which should include national players Dwayne `Brown Sugar’ Roberts and Neil Marks, national junior forward Geoffrey LaRose, Omar Sam and Alexander Rose in the front court, while Sheldron Noel and Dwight McKinnon will be in the back court.

Bulls, who upset the top ranked Kashif and Shanghai Kings, will be brimming with confidence. Once again the dependable rising start Michael Turner will be looked upon for a strong performance after his game high 21 points against the Kings. His supporting cast should include Keon Cameron, the experienced Kurleigh Austin, Jashon Blair, Sean ‘Squeaky’ Adams and Denzil Lovell. This tournament continues tomorrow with another double header at the same venue.

In the first game Raiders will oppose Flames from 6.30pm while the Kings will look to redeem themselves when the meet second seed Amelia’s Ward Jets from 8.30pm.
