Sandy crashes ashore in New Jersey

NEW YORK/REHOBOTH BEACH, Del., (Reuters) – Sandy, one of the biggest storms ever to hit the United States, roared ashore with fierce winds and heavy rain tonight near the gambling resort of Atlantic City, New Jersey, after forcing evacuations, shutting down transportation and interrupting the presidential campaign.

11,000 Jamaican farmers affected by Sandy

(Jamaica Gleaner) Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Ian Hayles says early estimates indicate that close to 11,000 farmers across the island have been affected by Hurricane Sandy, with some 1,500 hectares of crops totally destroyed.
