Bus driver charged over calling spouse names

A minibus driver, accused of calling his spouse names, was yesterday arraigned on an abusive language charge.

Devon Marshall, of Stevedore Scheme, East Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Court 1 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecution said that on December 16, Marshall and Clair Tait, who live together, had a misunderstanding, which resulted in him calling her names she didn’t like.

However, Marshall said there was more to the case. “She and me is living together for 18 years, right? But she sleep out de house for two days now, so I talk to she and she get vex and go to the police,” he told the court.

The prosecution had no objection to bail and Marshall was released on his own recognisance.
The matter will continue on January 12 in Court 10, when it is scheduled for reports and fixtures.
