KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC-Assistant head coach Alfredo Montesso says Jamaica has to significantly improve on its passing against Panama when the two teams meet in their CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier at the National Stadium tomorrow. The Reggae Boyz are playing their second match in the final qualifying series against Panama following their historic nil nil draw against CONCACAF giants Mexico in their opening match last month.
Montesso says he is concerned about Jamaica’s passing rate which was less than 200 passes in their Mexican encounter.
“I have analysed the game, and we did 195 passes in that game,” said Montesso adding….”and that is not enough for a team that wants to qualify for a World Cup. We have to improve on that.”
The Reggae Boyz are in joint second place, with one point, alongside Panama and Costa Rica, who drew 2-2 in Panama City, and Mexico, with whom they drew 0-0 in Mexico City.
The Jamaicans are also two points behind early leaders Honduras, who beat the pointless USA 2-1 at home in San Pedro Sula.
They are planning to launch an all out offensive against the Panamanians, signaling a change in the strategy employed during their goalless draw against Mexico at Estadio Azteca.
“Now our approach has to be different, we have to take some more risks in the game because we are playing at home and this is what we have started to put in their minds,” said Montesso. “We have to push Panama back into theirown half, we have to attack more, of course, with more ball possession, much more than we did against Mexico”.
