Charges likely soon over strangling of Albion woman

Charges are expected to be laid soon against Ramesh Tarachand, the Albion, Corentyne man who allegedly strangled his wife on Sunday night.

Police sources, last evening told Stabroek News that charges will be laid as soon as police receive advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.  Police also said that another man who had been held has been released from custody.

It was reported that on Sunday night,  Geeta Bissoondyal, 27, called “Diane”, mother of three of Lot 67 High Reef, Albion, Corentyne and formerly of Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice was discovered dead in the bottom flat of her home.

The deceased’s mother related to this newspaper that on Sunday night her daughter’s lifeless body was discovered by her older sister who resides in Hampshire, Corentyne. The sister, Vashti, related that she sensed something was amiss after Luke, a cousin of the victim’s husband called her.

Vashti and Luke visited the home and called several times but received no answer.

They reportedly kicked open the door and discovered the woman’s body after which the police were summoned.

When the police were summoned, they were able to rescue Tarachand who was attempting to commit suicide.

He was taken to the hospital.

A post-mortem examination performed on the woman revealed that she died of manual strangulation.

The woman is survived by her three children Nickal 6, Brianna 3, and one-year-old Jaden, along with her siblings and parents.
