Taylor’s power hitting helps Atlantis retain title

ATLANTA, United States, CMC- A typically aggressive half century from West Indies women star all-rounder Stafanie Taylor highlighted the finals of the Atlanta Women’s T20 tournament over the weekend.

Taylor smashed an unbeaten and chanceless 64 off 36 deliveries to help Atlantis retain their title with an eight wicket victory over Ladies eagles.

Taylor hit two sixes and six fours and partnered with Atlantis’ skipper and US national player Nadia Gruny in a fourth wicket stand.

It was a one-time appearance in the tournament for the world’s leading woman’s cricketer who thrilled the crowd at McNair Field in Forest Park, Georgia, with an array of power-hitting and an awesome display of shot selection.

Gruny contributed 33 as Atlantis chased Ladies Eagles total of 123 for 5 in 20 overs and her boundary off Vanessa Hayles took the defending champions home at 125 for two in 14.1 overs.

The tournament, organized by the Georgia Women Cricket Association (GWCA) for the third consecutive year,  included teams from the Atlantic Region, Cayman Islands, Atlantis Cricket Club of New York, and host team Atlanta Pearls.
