Orealla Secondary hammer Lower Corentyne 13-0 in Digicel Schools football

Orealla Secondary School nailed Lower Corentyne Secondary 13-nil on Friday as the Digicel Schools football tournament continued at the Skeldon Community Centre ground.

Watched by a few spectators at the estate ground, The Orealla side destroyed the opposition with Evon Herman firing in six goals.

Ikey Henry, head coach of the winning team told Stabroek Sport shortly after the match that his players played according to plan.

Henry said the players were aggressive during the course of the game but noted there were a few minor setbacks, although he declined to elaborate.

Henry said the team’s preparation prior to their first game was not up to standard as the majority of the training sessions were cancelled since the students had End-of-Term examinations.

Training was also hindered by the rainy season, he added.

Apart from that, the coach said the players were supportive and exhibited pronounced discipline on the field.

With this year being the first time Orealla would have participated in the tournament, Henry said he was optimistic about his team winning their remaining matches in Region 6 and added that the players are looking forward to the National Playoffs.

Brinsley Rajnarine, Cameron Edwards, Jushawn Benn, Germaine Biswane and Orsino Moses were the other goal scorers.

Meanwhile, Diamond Secondary, Christ Church, Ash Education Trust, Ann’s Grove and Charlestown Secondary advanced to the next round in the knockout tournament.

Diamond won 11-1 against Xenon Secondary at the Grove Community Centre ground with Nicholie Matthews scoring four goals in the 35th, 67th, 78th and 50th minutes and Seo
n Alfred netting a hat-trick in the 20th, 70th and 75th minutes respectively. Steffon Daniels, Josa Samaroo, Shelton Joe and Denzil Crawford each scored in the 4th, 30th, 53rd and 89th minutes. Christ Church Secondary and Ash Education Trust defeated Cummings Lodge Secondary and Bush Lot Secondary 4-nil and 4-2 respectively. Javonty Best scored a double for Christ Church in 51st and 63rd minutes while Travis Fitzpatrick and Carlton Harris scored in the 65th and 69th minutes.

Jamal Anjus netted a double for Ash Education Trust in the 4th and 59th minutes as Akeeno Watts and Kevin Layne contributed in the 35th and 85th minutes respectively.

Ann’s Grove Secondary won 3-1 with Paul Collins, Verrel Pelle and Shenroy Joseph netting in the 22nd, 30th and 72nd minutes in their encounter with Golden Grove while Charlestown Secondary edged Mercy Wing 2-1 over at the Ministry of Education ground. Shane Morris and Omari James led the team to the victory after scoring in the 21st and 78th minutes.
