NA Technical Institute student sustains skull fracture in cricket match

A second year student of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute is now a patient in the Male Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after being struck on the head by a ball during a cricket game at the Goed Bananen Land Ground in East Canje.

A CT scan and x-ray revealed that Shaunquilley Caesar called ‘Catty,’ 19, of Penitentiary Walk, New Amsterdam, sustained a skull fracture due to the blow and his brain is swollen.

According to reports, Caesar, who was part of the Baracara team, was batting when he was accidentally struck on the head by a ball delivered by a bowler. He collapsed immediately and had blood gushing out of his nose. He was also vomiting blood.

The teen was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital and doctors there contemplated an immediate surgery but he was transferred to GPH for further evaluation and possible surgery.

After it was decided that there was no need for an emergency surgery, Caesar was stabilised and placed in the male surgical ward.
