Accused in theft of car mirrors was ID’ed by surveillance footage

A man, allegedly caught on camera stealing a pair of car mirrors from a Kaieteur News employee, was yesterday released on $60,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that Winston Bovell, 39, of 7 Ann’s Grove, stole a pair of mirrors from the car of Sarah Balgobin on April 6, at Saffon Street, Charlestown.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick told the court that Balgobin left the car with mirrors intact and went to run some errands. He said that when she returned and checked the vehicle, she noticed that the mirrors were missing.

Bostwick said that Kaieteur News surveillance cameras were checked and Bovell along with another person was seen removing the articles mentioned in the charge. He was later arrested and charged.

Bovell, who was represented by attorney Rexford Jackson, was granted bail and the case was adjourned until April 24.
