Sentences amounting to a total of four months in jail were on Thursday handed down to a vagrant by a city magistrate after he pleaded guilty to two charges of simple larceny and claimed that he committed the crimes to support his drug habit.

Raymond Mohammed, 57, of Charlotte Street, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh, who read the charges to him.

It is alleged that the man on August 23, at Thomas Land, Georgetown, stole two sideview mirrors, valued at $80,000, and which was the property of Monica Sharma.

It was further stated that Mohammed on May 10th, at Quamina Street, Georgetown, also stole two sideview mirrors, worth $30,000, which were the property of Cash City Inc.

Mohammed, who was unrepresented in court, pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to serve two months’ imprisonment for each charge.

According to the court’s Police Prosecutor, Mohammed is no stranger to the police since and would usually be arrested for stealing car mirrors.

The defendant told the court, “I does do drugs to ease meh head…I is a drug addict,” before claiming that he lives in a “drug yard” at Charlotte Street and that he steals and sells the mirrors to purchase drugs.
