Electrician charged with assault on wife

An electrician was yesterday charged with assaulting his common-law wife.

Ryan Shepherd, a father of three of 43 Palm Street, Werk-en-Rust, pleaded not guilty to cuffing Hollis Gillis to the left side of her face, causing it to be bruised and swollen.

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry heard that on September 10, at Palm Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, Shepherd and Gillis, with whom he shares a home, had an argument over a phone call.

It was during the argument that he cuffed her to her face, Police Prosecutor Sergeant Vishnu Hunt said.

Hunt did not object to bail, which was set at $80,000. The case was adjourned until September 23.
