Transport for passport?

Dear Editor,

I wish to thank you for having published my letter ‘Still waiting for transport to be returned’ (SN, March 14).  It would seem that my transport is doomed and only because I am fighting to have it returned to me after this is long overdue.

I called the Public Service Ministry (PSM) around 3.12 pm on March 19, and asked to speak to a Ms Grogan. I was told by a man named Mr Ganesh that Ms Grogan was otherwise occupied and I was invited to leave a message. I did so.

The message was a very simple one which said that I wanted my transport returned to me and I needed it by tomorrow, March 20. I further added that I would be visiting the PSM on March 20 and if my transport was not available to me that they should have the police ready to lock me up.

That was all that I said. Lo and behold Minister  Jennifer Westford called my cell at about 3.20 pm on March 19 and told me that I had left a threatening message for one of her staff members.

I explained to the Minister the extent of my message and asked her to have my transport ready to be picked up by March 20. The Minister told me in no uncertain terms, that unless my daughter, the doctor for whom I pledged my transport as security for her return to Guyana, submitted her passport to her ministry I would not get my transport back.

Now if that is not strong-arm tactics then what is? My transport was pledged to ensure the return of my daughter to her job and to have her fulfil her obligation to this government, which she has been doing with great pride and honour.

She returned to her job at the New Amsterdam hospital on April 8, 2013. She was the recipient of an award described as Outstanding Woman, 2014, by the BRHA.

My obligation ended with the return of my daughter to work and nowhere is it stated that my daughter must submit her passport before my transport is released. At the outset they required a letter stating that she had resumed duties.

Now because of my letters to the press and my phone call this Minister is going to show me that I will not get my transport. Way to go Minister Westford. Show the power that you have.  All I need is my transport.

 Yours faithfully,

Charrandass Persaud
