Braithwaite wins GNRA Recorded Shoot

Lennox Braithwaite defeated Ransford Goodluck last Sunday to win the Guyana NRA Record Shoot at the TImehri Rifle Ranges.

Braithwaite won with a score of 116.10 to Goodluck’s 113.8.

Despite overcast conditions early at the 300 yard ranges with unusually strong winds, Braithwaite produced a possible 50.4 to win the range.

He was followed by Dylan Fields with 49.5.  Another possible at the 600 yard range by Braithwaite saw him wining that range too followed by Ransford Goodluck with 34.1.

The 1000 yard range was won by Mahendra Persaud with a score of 32.2.  However, both Persaud and Fields developed technical problems with their rifles and were unable to complete the full three ranges.

The O Class saw Leo Ramalho winning the 300 and 500 yard ranges with scores of 48.1 and 34.2 respectively.

Sherwin Felicien was second at the 300 yards with 46.1 and he also won the 1000 yard range with a score of 27.0.

20131027mahendra persaudPaul Slowe, who returned to the country recently, was second at the 600 yard ranges with 33.2.

Ramalho was adjudged winner of the `O’ Class.

According to a press release, the rifle team will now focus on team shoots from this weekend in preparation for the West Indies Full Bore Championships, being held this year in Jamaica in early May.

Ryan Sampson, secretary of the GNRA stated that letters have been sent out to the business sector and he was hoping to receive favourable responses.

He added that the sport was not one to attract attendance and as such funds could not be raise in that manner.

“The excellent performance of the team over the years speaks for itself,” stated Sampson adding “the National Fullbore Team has won both the Short and Long Range Team Championship more than any other West Indies Rifle Team.  We have made all of Guyana proud with our performance; therefore we need assistance to make Guyana proud once more.”
