King’s Six wins on sixes

King’s Six last Wednesday defeated Ali’s Six and Jeet’s Six to win the Hilbert Bumpy Ali birth anniversary dominoes tournament played at the Everest Cricket Club.

King’s Six and Ali’s six ended the competition with 77 games but King’s Six won by virtue of scoring seven sixes to five by Ali’s Six. Jeet’s Six scored 66 games. The competition was organized by International Six (Ali being a long-standing member) and sponsored by Shew’s General Store of Leopold Street, Georgetown.

Overseas-based Basil “Super Cool” Jeet, was the top marker for the winners with 15 games while Sham Seeram (14), Claude Stuart (13) Lennox Collison (13) and skipper Looknauth “King” Persaud (12) were the other principal scorers.

The top markers for team were Mahadeo “Bomb” Persaud with 17 games, Manniram “Packer” Shew, 16, and Nazir “Doc” Ali with 15. Hilbert “Bumpy” Ali, scored 10 games.

Soomdat “Rico” Jeet played a Captain’s hand for his team with 14 games while Paramanad “Rough” Jagdeo chipped in with 12. The first and second-placed team were recipients of trophies. Also, the top three players in the respective teams – Basil Jeet of King’s Six, Mahadeo Persaud of “Bumpy” Ali’s Six and Soomdat Jeet of Jeet’s Six.

Hilbert “Bumpy” Ali, who turned 80 on Wednesday, is credited with being the oldest player competing on the local scene.
