Slingerz FC import eyes national league

Recently acquired shot-stopper Joao Moreira da Silva Filho said the reason he signed for Vergenoegen giants Slingerz FC was because he held ambitions of playing in the GFF National Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to Stabroek Sport, the Brazilian native said “I was approached by Slingerz FC for this season. I always liked Guyana, always had the goal of playing in the national league, and now that I have this opportunity, I accepted the proposal and will fulfil my dream and I will work hard for the many joys for the people of Guyana.”

He further said that the sport of soccer has grown in Guyana, which is made evident by the fact that country is competing in the CONCACAF Champions League. He noted that this shows that the country has ambition to evolve into professional football.

Questioned about the attributes he brings to the Vergenoegen side, da Silva said that he brings a professional mindset as well as physical and tactical abilities which will be of great assistance to the club in the upcoming season.

The 20-year-old custodian who once featured for Canadian unit Kingston FC, has plied his trade for Brazilian sides South America EC, Iranduba BCE, Gremio BCE, Princess EC, National FC, Penarol BCE and São Raimundo EC.

He has also claimed several individual accolades inclusive of two Champion Amazonense Football Base awards (Best Goalkeeper), two Professional Cup Amadeu Texeira awards (Best Player), one Champion Amazonense Professional Football award (Revelation Goalkeeper) and one Cup Ismael Benigno Professional award (Goalkeeper Highlight).
