Non-retained duo in Jamaica squad for first round match

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica’s selectors have included two new players in their 13-man squad for the opening match of the WICB Professional Cricket League against Windward Island Volcanoes starting next week Friday.

Marquino Mindley, a 19-year-old fast bowler who has played for Young West Indies, will join fellow seamer Keno Wallace as the two new faces.

They are part of a quartet of fast bowlers, which includes David Bernard Jr and Jason Dawes.

Neither Mindley nor Wallace were part of the ten retained players, nor part of the recent draft, and will come under the pay-as-you-play rules governing the competition.

Surprisingly, four players who landed contracts with the Jamaica franchise have been omitted with fast bowlers Sheldon Cottrell and Brian Buchanan, along with batsmen Horace Miller Brandon King, all out of action for the opening round encounter.

The Jamaica squad includes West Indies batsman Jermaine Blackwood who dominated last year’s competition and out-of-favour Windies gloveman Carlton Baugh.

Experienced skipper Tamar Lambert will lead the squad.

SQUAD – Tamar Lambert (captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Jermaine Blackwood, Shacaya Thomas, André McCarthy, John Campbell, David Bernard Jr, Carlton Baugh Jr, Nikita Miller, Damion Jacobs, Keno Wallace, Marquino Mindley and Jason Dawes.
