Dear Editor,
The resumption of Parliament is an important topic to be discussed and every citizen of Guyana ought to be involved in making a peaceful contribution to the negotiation process for good governance.
At this moment it is the opinion among Guyanese that the concept of shared governance constructively administered is an alternative to good governance.
It is also the opinion among Guyanese that the 10th Parliament with its composition of parliamentarians can be used as the basis to start the process in reality for good governance.
In addition to that, political solutions can be drawn from the work of past presidents, especially the late Forbes Burnham and the late Cheddi Jagan who have made immense contributions politically to Guyana’s development.
Political solutions can also be drawn from the work of the late Nelson Mandela for his contribution to world politics in the fight against human indignity and for democracy in South Africa and the rest of the world.
One should remember that his memorial service was attended by past and present world leaders. Among them were the President of United States, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister of Canada, the head of state of Cuba, the Prime Minister of Jamaica and the President of Guyana, to name a few who paid their final respects. At the same time his work was honoured in the Parliament.
As an advocate of human rights I do support the consultation with the church body, the labour movement and businessmen and women along with the work of the late Nelson Mandela for guidance in finding a satisfactory way of dealing with opposing ideas at the table for good governance in Guyana.
