Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination performed on the body by Pathologist Nehaul Singh stated that he died from a stab to his chest.

Ramdhani called Suraj, 20 years, of Tain Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice, along with his brother, left home on Saturday night to go to a wake house that was a street away. However, they visited a wedding house in the neighbouring village and were returning home when they were attacked. According to the brother, Daniel Ramdhani, who is an eyewitness, he and his brother were leaving the wedding house when one of the suspects started to verbally abuse them.

“[Name of suspect] start cuss up and push up he hand to my brother… We walk away…”, he recalled. He added when they arrived at a dark spot on the dam, the suspects rushed up to them, pulled out a knife and plunged it into his brother. He explained that the suspect then held on to his brother and pulled out the knife and his brother fell down. After he observed what was happening, he attempted to save his brother but the father picked up a piece of wood and “pelt it” at him, Daniel recounted. Additionally, Daniel said after he was chased away he ran through a street and lay on the parapet to hide from the suspects.

“They run me a lil piece and them turn back”. He stated that he waited for a short while before returning to his brother. However, when he returned he noticed that persons were rushing his brother to the hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, Daniel said he was prevented from entering. Investigators who were summoned, picked Daniel up from the hospital and returned to the scene in an attempt to catch the suspects. However, the men had already fled.
