Accident victim’s mother urges fugitive driver to surrender to cops

The mother of Parmanand Deokaran, the teen who was killed after being struck down by a car on the Providence Public Road almost three weeks ago, is calling on the driver responsible to turn himself in.

Deokaran, 18, also known as “Jonny” or “Rago,” of Success, East Coast Demerara, died after he and two friends were struck down on December 21st. The driver fled the scene on foot after the accident.

The two survivors were hospitalised and discharged days after.

A police source told Stabroek News the driver, identified by police as Asif Khan, is still at large and there have been no reported sightings of him.

The source also said the driver’s relatives remain tightlipped about his whereabouts. Based on information received, the source said it is believed he was in Berbice but the police have had no luck locating him.

One of them write exam the other day and I don’t know how things will work out…I got a two-day a week job and it can’t pay. I put in for another job but you know how it hard to get a job now… he should turn himself in, man…,” she said, choking back tears.
