James sets new national indoor 400m record

US based quarter miler, Stephan James erased the national indoor 400m record on Friday at the Armory Track Invitational in NY, NY.

James, who has continued to excel since earning a scholarship in 2013, clocked 47.15s in placing second in the 400m final of the event and established the new record, lowering the previous mark (47.36s) set by Richard Jones.

A check on iaaf.org ratified the feat done by the 21 year-old who attends ASA College.

Another US-based Guyanese, Clayton Gravesande (47.16s) ran under the previous record after placing third in the same race.

James’ college coach, Kenrick Smith praised his charge’s performance on a Facebook post, stating that “Stephan James ran an outstanding race to achieve second place in the 400m in a time of 47.15s, making it his pb (personal best).

Note: James’ personal best for an outdoor 400m is one second faster (46.15s). He set that time last May in Mesa, Arizona.
