Guyana Jaguars eye J/ca session to wrap up preparations

Guyana Jaguars Assistant Coach Rayon Griffith said yesterday that following the washed out three-day practice match which was scheduled for the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda the team will now eye Thursday’s net sessions in Jamaica to conclude preparations for the fifth round encounter of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League (PCL).

The Guyana Jaguars, on 57 points, will take on Jamaica (50 points) in a top of the table clash from Friday at Sabina Park, Jamaica.

The Jaguars three-day practice match scheduled from Thursday to Saturday last week was abandoned due to persistent showers but the team still managed to sneak in a net session on Saturday at the GCC ground although the wet outfield did not allow the match to be played.

Griffith, during a brief telephone interview with this newspaper yesterday, confirmed the session in Jamaica which will be used to get the team fine-tuned and acclimatized before Friday’s clash. He also pointed out that the Guyana Jaguars team which is expected to be at full strength team for the remainder of the tournament, was not affected by injury to any player at the moment.

With one day left before the team depart these shores, Griffith said they will take a break before they wing out on Wednesday, then utilize the time given for Thursday’s session to hit their straps before Friday’s match.

Guyana will fancy their chances in the 2015 four-day season following a good showing at the Nagico Super50 tournament where they managed to reach the final for the ninth time in nearly a decade before losing by 135 runs to Trinidad.

With the return of skipper Leon Johnson, middle-order batsman Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin who continues to positively recover from his broken finger, Shiv Chanderpaul’s presence and the availability of the West Indies Under-19 trio of Kemo Paul, Shimron Hetmyer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the Jaguars have an abundance of talent and experience at their disposal and will be keen on opening their account after a break in the competition with a win.
