Trucking service worker dies after accidental bludgeoning

Just over two weeks after starting at a new job at Arjune’s Trucking Service, Harriram Chaitu lost his life when a piece of iron fell on his head.

Chaitu, 28, also known as ‘Richie,’ of Phase 1 Hope, East Coast Demerara, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday.

Mahesh Chaitu told Stabroek News that two of his son’s co-workers explained that he was under a low bed cutting a U-Clamp when a piece of metal fell on his head.

They said they then got him out and took him to the hospital.

Chaitu said he was at work when he got a call from his granddaughter, who told him to go to the Georgetown Public Hos-pital because his son was seriously injured.

However, he said he did not get to see his son because he was already in a body bag by the time he arrived. Chaitu said so far the workplace has been very helpful and cooperative with the family.

Chaitu described his son as easy going and loving.

When Stabroek News visited the Mahaica-based trucking service for information on the accident, the supervisor refused to comment on the man’s death.
