T&T duo on target as St Kitts hammer Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CONCACAF – Trinidad and Tobago-based duo Kennedy Isles and Devaughn Elliot proved their worth, as St Kitts and Nevis trounced Barbados 3-1 in their international friendly here Sunday night.

Isles, who plays for St Ann’s Rangers in the T&T Pro League, put the visitors ahead in the 29thminute. However, his strike was cancelled out by Barbados captain Mario Harte, who struck six minutes before the break, to leave the game in a 1-1 deadlock at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

St Kitts then sneaked ahead seven minutes into the second half through Elliot’s clinical finish and Kiamaree Rogers capped off his side’s dominant display with a superb finish deep in stoppage.

Following on from their resounding victories in the first round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in March when they thrashed Turks and Caicos Islands 12-4 on aggregate, St Kitts coach Shavon Douglas said he was not surprised by the margin of victory.

“As part of what we’re trying to focus on is basically trying to score more goals as often as possible,” Douglas pointed out.

“That way, if we’re able to put way games convincingly, it takes a lot of pressure off the defence and the team as a whole so we were really looking for goals.

“Especially in the first half, they didn’t come then but we were persistent and patient and once the openings came, we executed well and put away those goals.”
