Ravens gets the better of arch-rival Colts in mismatch

Dyna’s Ravens demolished arch-rival Colts 75-40 in an Open division showdown when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘King of the Hard Court’ Championship continued on Friday at the Plaisance basketball Facility.

Dominic Vicente and Ryan Gullen top scored in the win with 17 points each while Jermin Slater, Ryan Stephney and Marlon Rodrigues with 15, 10 and nine points respectively helped complete the rout.

Niko Fraser, Rawle Nelson and Haslym Hooper top scored for Colts with six points each while Delon LaRose and Rayon Cummings supported with five points apiece.

A highly-anticipated matchup quickly evolved into an unfortunate mismatch as Raven’s effectively sealed the fixture in the first period, outscoring Colts 18-2. The first five minutes of the period saw Raven’s seizing control as they raced off to an 8-0 lead.

Colts would finally get on the board through a Hooper layup with 4:36s remaining on the clock and the score 10-2. However, Raven’s continued to boss the period, solidifying their lead by closing out the final minutes with an 8-0 run.

Slater was their top scorer in the period with eight points through three layups and two freethrows while veteran guard Stephney supported with six points through four freethrows and a layup.

While Colts would improve on their scoring display in the second stanza, Raven’s would maintain their advantage as the quarter ended 32-15. Vicente was the top shooter in the period with five points inclusive of a three pointer at 8:40s.

Slater continued his momentum as he netted four points from two layups. On the Colts side, Cummings, English and Errol Dryden led their offense with three points each.

The scoring struggles would continue for Colts in the pivotal third period as they only netted 11 points while conceding 20. It was all about Gullen in the period as he netted 13 points littered with three strikes from beyond the arc and two layups.

Five points was the best that could be mustered by a Colt player in the period compliments of LaRose. With the matchup already decided at 52-26 going into the final period, Ravens would cap off their fine showing as they outscored Colts 23-14.

Vicente led the scoring with 12 points inclusive of three layups, a three-point play and a three-pointer while Rodrigues netted seven points compliments of two layups and three freethrows. For the Colts, Fraser scored all six of his points from two layups and a jump shot while Nelson netted four points.

In the opening fixture of the night in the same section, Knights defeated Pepsi Sonics by a 51-42 score line. Lloyd Bart top scored for the winners with 17 points while Owan Walton was the next best scorer with 13 points.

Chipping in with 10 and six points respectively in the win were Akil Lewis and Randy Aaron. On the losing side, Trevor Smith shot his way to a game-high 23 points while Yannick December, Kerwin Jackson and Kevin Cumberbatch supported with six, six and five points respectively.

Leading the matchup 14-9 after the first period, Knights would go into the half time interval leading by 15 points as the second stanza ended 30-15. Sonics would then cut the deficit in the third period as they outscored Knights 15-8 to go into the fourth quarter trailing 30-38.

Nonetheless, Knights would seal the fixture in the final stanza as they outshot Sonic by a 13-12 margin. The action continues today at the same venue.
