Toilet row land siblings in court

A row over a toilet ended up with two brothers being charged for assaulting each other and damaging each other’s property.

Orin West pleaded guilty to two charges when he appeared before     Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

He was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding his brother Jason West on May 12 so as to cause him actual bodily harm.

He was also charged with damaging articles belonging to Jason totaling $18,000.

Jason was also charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounded his younger brother Orin so as to cause him actual bodily harm.

He also faced a charge which stated that he damaged several articles belonging to Orin including a Jailing motorcycle and a television with a total value of $224,000.

According to the facts presented in court, an argument between the two men erupted over the use of a toilet.

The argument reportedly escalated to a physical confrontation following which a report was made to the police.

When asked if either of them had anything to say, Jason said “I am ashamed and sorry that it had to reach to court.”

The Chief Magistrate released the men on their own recognizance and ordered that they seek counselling at Help and Shelter.

The brothers were ordered to return to court for sentencing on July 31.
