Defending champions outlast Uitvlugt Secondary in penalty shootout

Defending three-time national champions Christianburg/Wismar kept their hopes alive of a fourth consecutive championship overcoming Region #3 holders Uitvlugt Secondary on penalty kicks Sunday in the Digicel Secondary Schools championships national playoffs.

With the fixture scoreless at the end of the normal time, penalty kicks eventually settled the outcome of the engagement at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.

The Linden giants eventually prevailed over their West Demerara foes 3-1 to seal their berth in the next round of the championship. In the Region Six title matchup, Berbice High School overcame a one goal deficit to defeat Orealla Secondary 2-1.

Surrendering the early lead compliments of a 14th minute Derick France effort, BHS would level the score in the 45th minute as Derick Taylor found the back of the net. They would then complete the come-

From-behind win as Taylor sealed his double with a 62nd minute strike.

At the No. #5 ground, West Coast Berbice, three-time national runners-up and four times consecutive Region #7 champs Waramadong Secondary dismantled two-time Region #5 champs Bush Lot Secondary 6-1 while over at the Golden Grove ground, East Coast Demerara, Annandale Secondary edged Friendship Secondary 2-1 in the division final.
