The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will stage its annual two-day National Novices Championships over the weekend at the East Ruimveldt Community Centre.
The sum of nine gyms will battle for trophies, medals and bragging rights during the fixture which will be held under floodlights from 19:00hrs.
According to president of the association, Steve Ninvalle, boxers form the New Opportunity Corps, Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), Harpy Eagles, Young Achievers, Rose Hall Jammers, Essequibo Boxing Gym, the Guyana Police Force, Republican and the Pocket Rocket Gym will compete at the first local event for the year.
Last year’s top honors went to the pugilists of the Republican Gym after they famously out punched their GDF opponents for the champion’s trophy.
