Seth, Khalil lose title quests

Guyana’s hopes of securing an individual title in the men’s or women’s division were extinguished yesterday as Sunil Seth and Ashley Khalil lost their respective semi-final matchups when the Caribbean Squash Association Championships continued in the Cayman Islands.

Seth went down to defending champion Chris Binnie of Jamaica in straight sets 11-9, 13-11 and 11-7. Binnie will now oppose Cameron Stafford of the Cayman Islands in the final after the latter edged Jamaican Lewis Walters 12-10, 9-11, 11-9, 11-13 and 17-15.

On the other hand, Khalil lost to Bermudian Runa Reta in straight sets 11-3, 11-5, 11-9. The Bermudian will now lock horns with Karen Meakins of Barbados in the finale, after the Barbadian overcame Eastern Caribbean States Daniela Schuman 9-11, 11-9, 11-9 and 13-11.

In other results of the women’s division, Ashley DeGroot defeated Marie Claire Barcant of Trinidad and Tobago 11-8, 11-2, 13-11 while Larissa Wiltshire defeated Nadia McCarthy of Barbados 14-12, 13-11, 11-4 and Meakins defeated Mary Fung-A-Fat 11-4, 11-7, 11-3.

Continuing in the same section, Khalil defeated Charlotte Knaggs of Trinidad and Tobago 11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5 while Reta defeated Akeila Wiltshire 11-2, 11-1, 11-6, Victoria Arjoon defeated Rae Stollmeyer of Barbados 11-5, 11-6, 11-3 and DeGroot defeated Rhea Khan of Trinidad and Tobago 11-5, 11-4, 11-8.

Amanda Haywood of Barbados defeated Arjoon 11-9, 11-7, 11-8 while Charlotte Knaggs of Trinidad and Tobago edged DeGroot 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 and Claire Roscoe of Bermuda defeated Larissa Wiltshire 12-10, 9-11, 14-12, 11-3.

The final two results of the section witnessed Akeila Wiltshire downing Jackie Geils of the Cayman Islands 11-7, 11-9, 12-10 and Fung-A-Fat overcoming Claire Roscoe of the Cayman Islands 11-9, 15-13, 11-9.

On the male side, Seth defeated Micah Franklin of Bermuda 5-11, 11-4, 11-6, 5-11, 12-10 whilst Julian Morrison of Jamaica defeated Jason Khalil 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10 and Richard Chin via walkover.

In the final results of the division, Lewis Walters of Jamaica defeated Chin 11-6, 11-5, 6-11, 11-2 while Jason Doyle of Eastern Caribbean States defeated Nyron Joseph 11-4, 12-14, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9 and Jason Khalil defeated Nicholas Narain 11-8, 11-2, 13-11.

On Saturday in the Men’s division, Seth defeated Romario Constance of Easter Caribbean States 11-3, 11-5, 11-2 and Ashante Smith of Jamaica 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 while Chin defeated Bryant Cumberbatch of Barbados 12-10, 11-3, 11-6 and Mandela Patrick of Trinidad and Tobago 13-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-3.

Joseph defeated Bryant Cumberbatch via walkover and Stewart St. John of Barbados 11-2, 11-4, 11-3 while James Bentick of Eastern Caribbean defeated Chan-A-Sue 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 7-11, 11-5.

Defending champ Jamaican Binnie defeated Jason Ray Khalil 11-4, 11-7, 11-7 while Julian Morrison of Jamaica defeat Joseph 11-8, 11-1, 11-3 and Omar Bailey of Easter Caribbean States defeated Narain 11-4, 11-9, 15-13.

Jason Ray Khalil defeated Jules Snagg of Eastern Caribbean States 3-11, 8-11, 11-3, 11-2, 11-8 while Joshua Pinard of Trinidad and Tobago defeated Chan-A-Sue 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 and Narain defeated Benjamin Griffith of Barbados via walkover.

In the Women’s division, Fung-A-Fat defeated Faith Gillezeau of Trinidad and Tobago 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 and Rachel Barnes of Bermuda 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 while Akeila Wiltshire defeated Denise Kyme of Bermuda 11-4, 11-3, 11-1 and Nadia McCarthy of Barbados 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.

Ashley Khalil defeated Alexandria Yearwood of Trinidad and Tobago 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 and Amanda Haywood of Barbados 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 while Larissa Wiltshire defeated Lara Conolly of Cayman Islands 11-5, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4 and Kerstin Gordon of Easter Caribbean States 11-2, 11-5, 11-5.

Ashley DeGroot defeated Jane Chapman of Bermuda 11-3, 11-4, 11-0 while Daniela Schuman of Eastern Caribbean States defeated Larissa Wiltshire 11-4, 11-8, 11-4, Charlotte Snaggs of Trinidad and Tobago defeated Victoria Arjoon 12-10, 11-5, 11-9 and Susie Lacie of Bermuda defeated Disalle 11-0, 11-7, 11-8.

Lynn De Cambra-McLeod of Barbados downed Disalle 11-5, 11-1, 11-4, while Arjoon defeated Emma Keane of Bermuda 11-7, 11-2, 11-4 and Megan Best of Barbados defeated DeGroot 5-11, 11-5, 11-0, 10-12, 11-9.
