Teen charged with robbing bus passengers

A teenager was yesterday refused bail after he made his first court appearance to answer to four counts of armed robbery.

Dwight David, 18, of Lot 36 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2.

The first charge stated that on August 21st, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, David, while together with another and armed with a gun, robbed Kimberly Moore of a quantity of cash and jewellery, amounting to $106,000 in value.

It is alleged too that on the same day, while armed with a gun and together with another at West Ruimveldt, he robbed Demetrius Howard of documents and $2,000 cash.

It is also alleged that, on the same day, being together with another and armed with a gun, David robbed Kimberly Cort of a cellphone valued $40,000. Finally, he was accused of robbing Janelle Massiah of a handbag and a cellphone, amounting to $22,500 in value.

Another youth, Anfernee Archer, 17, was charged last week with the same robberies and he was remanded to prison.

According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the charges stemmed from an incident where the accused was a passenger of a minibus that sustained a puncture. While it was being attended to, the passengers were robbed.

Jones objected to bail while noting that personal violence was used to commit the offences.

David was subsequently remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to September 29th, when it will be called again at Court 10.
