Pro debut a special moment for ‘Magic’ Khan

Following a stellar amateur boxing career, Imran ‘Magic’ Khan is all set to make his professional debut on September 26 on the ‘Next Generation Boxing:The Giftland Showcase’ card.

The event which will be staged at the new Giftland Mall at Liliendaal, proudly features four professional and four amateur bouts.

On making his pro bow, the 22-year-old lightweight prospect told this publication yesterday “It feels special, I’ll be fighting in front of my fans and family, it’s a special moment, I will be a bit nervous but I know what I’ve got to do.”

Khan, the 2013 ALBA Games bronze medalist will be tested over four rounds against David Thomas.

“I’m feeling great, I’m not worried about Thomas, I’m training hard to win easy” boasted the ‘Magic Man’.

Khan who racked up 102 wins in the amateur ranks is trained by a professional boxer, James Walcott who campaigns in the super middleweight/ light heavyweight divisions. The duo train together at the Harpy Eagles Gym.

Walcott gave his charge, a former Olympic hopeful the thumbs up.

Meanwhile, the main course of the event will feature national welterweight champion, Iwan ‘Pure Gold’ Azore defending his title against Dexter ‘The Cobra’ Gonsalves.

The Azore/Gonzales bout is planned for 12 rounds and will keep fight fans on the edge of their seats throughout the affair if it manages to go to the distance.

Azore (16-5-3) who resides in Trinidad and Tobago is the more polished and skillful fighter but the ‘Cobra’ (7-1-2) is a knockout artist with bone breaking power.

In the co-feature, Anson Green and Quincy Gomes will match gloves in a light welterweight match up scheduled for six rounds.

The organizers have also pit Terrence Adams against Keeve Allicock in a four-round featherweight fight.

Tickets for the first Giftland Showcase costs $1000. Children under 12 years will pay half that amount. See you there. (Emmerson Campbell)
