Bandits rob Sheriff St supermarket

The Budget Supermarket on Sheriff Street, Georgetown was robbed on Wednesday night by two armed bandits.

No one was injured in the attack, during which the men held up both workers and customers.

They managed to escape with cash.

An eyewitness told Stabroek News that around 8.30 pm he was at the back of the store when he heard persons screaming.

“I didn’t take it for anything at the time and so I turned back and continue doing what I was,” he said. However, after he heard a commotion at the front of the store, he quickly turned around and he saw several persons lying face down on the ground.

“At this point I get worried and then I look and I saw two men with guns. One was at de door and another one was next to the cashier and he de shouting,” the frightened man recalled. He said the man at the counter was wearing a Halloween mask, while the one at the door was wearing a rag over his face. “I get frighten and go on the ground too cause they were shouting not to move,” he added.

The man said after a few minutes the cashier handed over the cash to the robber and the two men rushed through the door, hopped onto a nearby motorcycle and sped away.
