Scotiabank Kiddy cricket competition bowls off today in Berbice River

The 2015 Scotiabank Kiddy cricket competition will bowl off today with teams in the Berbice River area competing for top honors.

According to a press release from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), the tourney will get underway this morning with matches between Huru Huru and Aroiama Primary Schools while the afternoon session will feature Calcuni and St. Lust Primary.

Tomorrow, Kimbia Primary will oppose Ebini Primary while Sand Hills Primary will play De Veldt Primary.

The winning teams will progress to the qualifying stages in order to determine a winner for the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Berbice River District trophy on October 2, 2015.

Over 214 primary schools across the country will have an opportunity to participate in this year’s competition with Zones such as North Georgetown, East Bank Essequibo and West Berbice set to commence their matches from October 6.

The Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programme emphasises a fun-learning approach to cricket while simultaneously emphasizing group involvement and other team work ethics.

This year’s competition will incorporate aspects of the game that are more aligned to conventional rules, in an effort capture and identify talented players and to promote a progressive pathway for emerging players, stated the release.

Additionally, at the end of the tournament three (3) talented players will be identified for an opportunity to be the recipient of a Scotiabank award valued at US$500 with the student-player with the highest academic average for 2015 receiving the award.
