Defending champions Stella Maris, Enterprise Primary, West Ruimveldt and St. Angela’s recorded opening day wins when the fourth annual Petra Organisation/Courts Pee-Wee Under-11 football event began yesterday.

Holders Stella Maris battled their way to a 1-0 win in their opening fixture, downing St. Gabriel’s compliments of a Simeon Alleyne 27th minute effort. Alleyne lobbed his first time shot over the ‘keeper into the centre of the net after collecting a right sided pass.

West Ruimveldt sent an ominous warning to the rest of the field, dismissing St. Stephen’s 4-0. Jason Persaud commenced the assault with a double in the eighth and 14th minutes while Michael Oie completed the rout with goals in the 16th and 22nd minutes.

Similarly, St. Angela’s displayed their championship credentials as they defeated traditional giant Tucville Primary by a 1-0 score line.

Failing to give his side the lead in the sixth minute following a missed penalty attempt, Keyon Douglas would make amends as he netted in the 31st minute of the second stanza.

Skipping past two defenders with a cheeky drag manoeuvre after racing down the centre of the field, the wily Douglas upon entering the centre of the box, calmly placed his effort into the lower right hand corner of the net to seal the outcome.
