Two slates officially cleared for tomorrow’s GFA elections

The Normalization Committee of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially accepted the two slates that will contest the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) elections slated to be hosted tomorrow.

Acting President of the GFA Lavern Fraser-Thomas during a press conference said that local football is currently undergoing a state of reform, noting that the association has been guided by the federation’s electoral committee through the correct procedures to ensure both slates are constitutionally correct.

She further said that while she will not be contesting the polls in any capacity, she is always ready to help assist in the development of the sport.

Thomas further declared that while she is happy to make the pronouncement of the two slates, there is one issue as Slate-2 has not nominated an individual for the Treasurer position despite it being a constitutional requirement. Slate-2 is headed by Clifton Hickens.

According to Thomas, Article 11 ‘Examination of candidatures’ of the GFF Electoral Code states “1. The submitted slates of candidates shall be examined by the electoral committee within 6 days as of the deadline for their submission.

Following this term, the candidates shall be informed of the decision (admissibility or inadmissibility) of the electoral committees within 2 days. 2. In no event, any new slates or replacements for candidates shall be accepted after the deadline of submission of candidates”.

She further noted that while this might be an issue, the federation has already accepted both slates as constitutionally correct.

According to official press release from the federation signed by the General Secretary “The Normalization Committee of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), serving as the Electoral Committee of the GFA Elections of Executive Committee, hereby declares the following Slates eligible to contest the aforementioned elections at the GFA’s AGM on October 17, 2015 at the Sleepin International Hotel, Brickdam Georgetown”.

The release noted that Slate-1 which has been nominated by Beacons FC will consist of President Christopher Matthias, Vice President Mark Phillips, Vice President Akram Sabree, Vice President Stephen Joseph, General Secretary Adepemo Peters, Treasurer Aduke Woolford and Assistant Secretary Treasurer: Charmine Wade.

It further said that Slate-2 which is nominated by Police FC, will consist of President Hicken, Vice President Aaron Fraser, Vice President Frank Parris, Vice President Charles Greaves, General Secretary Althea Scipio and Assistant Secretary Treasurer Lloyd Millington.

The release further said “The Normalization Committee will organize and supervise the electoral process to ensure the correct application of the GFA, GFF and FIFA Statutes, regulations and provisions. The Normalization Committee will also supervise the administrative process relating to the actual election at the GFA AGM on 17 October 2015”.
