Waini farmer remanded on wounding charge

A Waini farmer was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with wounding another man.

20151020bernard matthiasBernard Matthias, 40, was accused of wounding Orin Mendonca with the intent to murder, maim, or disfigure him, while in the vicinity of the Three Brothers Village, Waini River. The encounter, which the prosecution related has left the victim hospitalised and nursing multiple chop wounds to the head, was said to have taken place on October 18.

Matthias, who was not required to plead to the indictable charge, was remanded to prison until November 17, when the matter will heard at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court.
