Customs blanks GNIC 6-0 at Futsal

Customs, Transport and Harbours, Oasis Water and the Ministry of Infrastruc-ture were among the winners when the inaugural Inter-Ministry/ Cor-poration Banks Beer Futsal Championship continued Thursday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Customs dismantled the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) by a 6-0 score line. Carlos Monkhouse led the way with a double in the fourth and fifth minutes while Terrence Adams recorded a brace in the third and 18th minutes.

Sealing the result with solo efforts were Rawle Johnny and Criswall Wills in the seventh and 14th minutes respectively. On the other hand, the Transport and Harbours Department downed the Bank of Guyana 6-3.

Ulric Bourne recorded a double in the 14th and 15th minutes in the win while Sheldon Chapman netted a brace in the 10th and 17th minutes and Lloyd Prince scored twice in the eighth and 20th minutes. For the losers Jermin Junior netted a hat-trick in the third, 18th and 19th minutes.

Meanwhile, Oasis Waters defeated Forestry Commission 4-1 led by goals from Gerald Gittens, Jarel December, Bryan Lewis and Delwin Carrington in the seventh, 16th, 19th and 20th minutes respectively. Netting in the loss was S. Lewis in the third minute.

Similarly, the Ministry of Infrastructure arrested the Ministry of Public Security 5-2 led by a Josephus Charles hat-trick in the sixth, ninth and 20th minutes. Netting solo goals in the win were Dexter Daniels and Mark Phillip respectively in the 11th and 20th minutes.

Shaquille Duncan and Sherwin Vincent scored in the third and 18th minutes correspondingly.

In other results, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs downed the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) by a 2-0 margin. Joel Bond and Dominique Hunt scored in the fifth and 12th minutes respectively.

In more results, the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Tourism battled to a 3-3 draw. Sven Anthony led the Agriculture Ministry with a double in the 10th and 14th minutes while Rionalto Branch scored in the first minute.

Scoring for the Tourism Ministry was Jolyan Harry in the fifth and 12th minutes and Quincy Gordon in the 14th minute.

Also recording a draw on the night was John Fernandes Incorporated who let a two goal advantage slip away as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Republic Bank. Wesley Tudor and Rondell Smith scored in the sixth and 10th minutes for John Fernandes Inc.

On target for the bankers were Anthony McFarlane and Jamel Amos in the 12th and 14th minutes respectively. In the final match of the night, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) defeated Wartsila via a walkover.

Winner of the event will receive the championship trophy and $200,000 while the second, third and fourth positioned team will receive $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.

Action in the championship will then continue tomorrow at the same venue with another round of group fixtures.

In the opening fixture from 18:30hrs, Bank of Guyana will oppose the Ministry of Agriculture while Oasis Water will lock horns with the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) from 19:00hrs in the second matchup.

The third affair will pit the Ministry of Forestry against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 19:30hrs while the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) will oppose the Ministry of Infrastructure from 20:00hrs.

At 20:30hrs, Customs will oppose the Ministry of Public Security while the Ministry of Tourism will lock horns with the Transport and Harbour Department from 21:00hrs.

The final two fixtures of the night will pit Republic Bank against Wartsila from 21:30hrs and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) against John Fernandes Inc. from 22:00hrs.
