Lethem teen remanded over attempted murder

A 16-year-old girl was on Friday remanded to prison for allegedly attempting to murder her friend in Lethem.

The teenager of Tabatinga, Lethem, was remanded to prison on Friday when she appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s court.

It is alleged that the teen was in an argument with another woman when Marrissa Charlie, 23, tried to end the row. Subsequently, a fight ensued between the teen and Charlie and Charlie was stabbed to her chest and eye.

The teen is expected to return to court on September 11.

Charlie, on the other hand, remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. She has lost vision in her right eye. “I’m feeling much better but it’s hard adjusting…,” Charlie said yesterday.

She is awaiting another surgery later this week.
