Suspect held in ‘Warlock’ murder

A suspect is currently in police custody in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Dexter Griffith, who was shot dead in East Ruimveldt on Tuesday evening.

This is according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who said that the suspect, who is no stranger to the police, was believed to have transported the shooter to and from the crime scene.

The police in a press release said about 19:45 hrs on Tuesday, Griffith, 36, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown was on the roadway in the area, which is also called ‘Warlock’, when a man approached on foot, discharged several shots at him and escaped. He was hit about his body according to the police and died on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Stabroek News had reported that Griffith was shot three times, to his left thigh, face and chest.

His mother, had told this newspaper that she was surprised to learn that her son was shot as he had no problem with anyone.

Griffith was among four men who were charged in November, 2007 with committing a sexual offence against a girl. They had appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where Griffith and another man were refused bail. The charge was that they had buggered a girl. The two other men were released on $100,000 bail. The outcome of the case is unclear.
