Man held over theft of BK excavator

A driver is in custody at the Parika Police Station for allegedly stealing an excavator belonging to BK Construction Company on Monday evening.

Stabroek News learnt that the driver, who is employed at a Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, company removed the excavator from BK’s worksite at Philadelphia by “mistake.”

According to police sources, he informed the security guard that his employer, who is well known to the company, sent him to uplift a machine that belonged to a man named ‘Ivor.’

The security then directed him to an excavator and the man left with it. Subsequently, the security guard realized that the man took the wrong machine and informed the chief security and the manager.

They then went to the premises of the employer of the accused and took possession of the excavator and the one for Ivor was handed over.

The sources said that the police are keeping the man in custody while carrying out investigations to determine if anything was stolen from the machine.

They are also looking at whether the excavator was removed in a deliberate attempt to “deprive BK of it.”
