Excavator operator allegedly shot by boss

A 24-year-old excavator operator is currently hospitalised at a city hospital after he was allegedly shot and injured by his employer on Friday morning following a misunderstanding.

The injured man has been identified as Garfield Williams.

The shooting occurred around 9 am at Blackwater Backdam, Konawaruk, Mahdia.

The suspect managed to escape and is yet to be apprehended.

Sunday Stabroek understands that around 7.30 am on Friday, Williams informed the suspect that he won’t be working with him anymore after which he requested his pay and he left.

Williams subsequently went to the camp to pack his belongings when the suspect allegedly approached him and requested the keys for the excavator that he had operated.

As Williams was taking out the keys from his pants waist, the suspect allegedly drew his firearm and discharged a round which struck Williams to his neck.

Williams was escorted to the Mahdia Hospital and he was later air dashed to the city, where he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

His condition is listed as serious.

A police investigation has since been launched.
